HEAT TREATMENT SERVICES TO HARDEN & TEMPER STEEL JAWS

Heavy-duty steel jaws used in the hardware industry lead an arduous life. They are constantly handling difficult materials like rock, construction debris, and scrap metals, and heat treatment services provided by Bristol Heat Treat can guarantee they will be up to the task. A customer of ours asked us to harden and temper construction jaws according to their specifications. The jaws were manufactured from 4140 steel, which is a chromium-molybdenum steel used extensively in applications that call for hardness, toughness, and fatigue resistance. Bristol’s heat treatment professionals turned to our continuous belt furnace with oil quenching to harden and temper the jaws, whose dimensions ranged from 3” to 6” long, 1” to 2” wide, and 1” to 2” high. All jaws underwent Rockwell hardness testing (RC 44-48) and were simply left with their heat-treated material finish. We now provide heat treatment for anywhere from 20 to 1,000 pounds of these jaws for our customer in only three to five days.

To perform properly, hardware industry steel parts, components, and assemblies must be properly hardened and tempered. If this is a problem you need to solve, contact the experts at Bristol Heat Treat for additional information.
